This past weekend the staff decided to step back from the keyboards, turn off their computer screens, and peel themselves off the luxurious pleather chairs. Once the blood made its way back up to our brains, we headed for beautiful New York State to hike Mount Marcy in the Adirondaks, unwind, and use some of the stuff we are constantly talking about and drooling over. What could go wrong?
As a child I hiked a fair bit in the Adirondaks and the surrounding areas. Fond memories were made with family and friends. Then I went to the Alps, and my mind was blown. What really caught my eye (besides the Alps) were the trekking poles. Holy smokes, trekking poles everywhere. The old, the young, growing from trees, popping out of pine cones, wherever I looked there were trekking poles gouging my eyes out. While in North America the notion of using poles had not struck yet, but the times, they are a-changin'.

Some of us here may enjoy the company of feline friends (hence BFF, right?). Totally because they are hardcore, and not because they are cute. All the essential work necessary for your 'round the world' trip (RTW) could take up to 6 months before your departure date, but understandably this time frame may be more for somebody who will be tackling this challenge for the first time. These days everything is so much easier with the internet; for some 2 weeks will be more than enough, who knows? Some of us can’t make it to the Himalayas or the Alps or other massive mountain ranges across the globe. We make due with what’s around us. Mont Saint-Hilaire, Mount Washington, and sometimes, if you are willing to drive, a real gem like Colorado’s Longs Peak. What separates Longs Peak, besides the distance, from our mountains in the East is its height: 14,259 feet to be exact. That is over twice the height of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Can we make it to the top?
It is Friday and raining. According to the forecast it is meant to rain for at least another 7 days. I'm depressed. I should be productive, but would rather peruse the vastness of the internet looking at videos of 'athletes' being hardcore, hurting themselves, or just doing amazing things in beautiful locations. In my last post I wanted to begin discussing how one can plan a trip around the world. It is not as hard as you think. This is my second post out of three, where I will try and help you make it happen, so that you can share this incredible experience, as I did.
So you have big plans for the summer. You are going to do all sorts of cool stuff with your friends: camping trips, rafting trips, taking rock climbing lessons, road tripping, bungee jumping, hiking, and maybe try your hand at underwater basket weaving.
Wait a minute, didn’t you have the same plans last year? How come all those plans never took place? You spoke about it with your friends, looked up websites, shared links, but somehow the trips never really took off and you’re not sure exactly why.
Well it’s a new year, and the summer’s just begun. Here’s your chance to turn things around and make sure you do all those crazy things you want to look back on in the fall. To help you, here’s a list of everything necessary to carry-out a successful trip.

Rassurez-vous, je ne me suis pas départi de mon increvable Whisperlite Internationale! J'ai simplement eu l'occasion d'utiliser ce modèle revendiqué comme extrême. Le tout dans un lieu non moins extrême: le parc d'Oka. Dépaysement assuré à 50 km de vélo de Montréal!
Pas besoin d’être un membre influent de Greenpeace ou de s’habiller de la tête au pied en coton bio-équitable-local pour dire qu’on aime la nature et passer du temps dehors. Qui n’aime pas s’échapper de sa tour du centre-ville pour aller dîner au soleil, profiter d’un petit bout de verdure pour s’asseoir et manger son sandwich tranquille, loin du téléphone qui sonne et des courriels qui pop sans arrêt (la beauté d’avoir 6 fuseaux horaires au Canada)?
Nous chez Alti (le ptit surnom de la famille Altitude-sports.com) on aime ça pas mal être dehors. C’est un peu un prérequis pour travailler ici, en plus d’être beaux et fabuleux bien sûr. Ok, le vif du sujet : le terrain de l’édifice où se trouvent nos bureaux, on croyait presque que c’était un dépotoir. On a été inspiré par la Grande Corvée qui a eu lieu il y a quelques semaines (lisez ici) et on s’est dit que ce serait une bien bonne idée de faire notre part et de nettoyer les alentours.
Enfin le soleil est chaud, on peut porter des shorts, profiter des terrasses et recommencer à aller courir sur le Mont-Royal. Le printemps c’est le renouveau de la nature mais aussi (et surtout!) des nouvelles collections, nouvelles tendances, nouvelles couleurs et nouveaux modèles !

Par un superbe après-midi ensoleillé de ce début du mois de mai, Annie-Claude Lauzon m’a donné rendez-vous aux serres de recherche situées sur le toit de l’UQAM pour rempoter les plants de tomates du CRAPAUD qui poussent en ce moment à une allure folle et pour parler d’agriculture urbaine. Les membres du CRAPAUD (Le collectif de recherche sur l’aménagement paysager et l’agriculture urbaine durable) sont en ce moment très occupés, comme tous les agriculteurs, à préparer la saison estivale qui approche à grands pas! Dès juin, les plantes (des légumes principalement, des fines herbes et même des plantes médicinales) pourront sortir de la serre pour être plantées dans les jardins en terre et en pots entourant le bâtiment du Cœur des sciences situé en plein centre-ville de Montréal!
